Letter From Russ Nowell

Dear Friends,

As you may know I am running for the Mississippi House of Representatives, District 43. I am asking for your support. The campaign is well under way and we need your help to win.

As a member of the House of Representatives, I will work hard for Mississippi. Mississippi is at a crossroads, and there are many issues which affect all of us. We can do better on economic development, and I intend to work hard to attract new industries and jobs. We can do better on education. Our State, including our District, has one of the highest dropout rates in the nation, which leads to criminal and other societal problems. I will focus on finding solutions to our serious dropout and crime problem. We can reform a regressive tax that so heavily burdens our citizens by cutting one of the highest grocery taxes in the nation. I will fight for all of us.

About Russ Nowell

Russ was born and raised right here in Louisville, and is a graduate of Louisville High School. After earning his degree from Mississippi State University, Russ came home and has been working to make our area better. Married to the former Amy Fussell of Louisville, Russ and Amy are raising their young daughter, Layton, here where they grew up. Family values run deep with Russ, and his dedication to helping others is a testament to those values in a community that cares for its elderly, prays for its neighbors, protects and educates its children, and fights for a better tomorrow!

As your next Representative from District 43, Russ Nowell will get to work immediately to make sure that education is fully funded each year and not just during an election year, and he will help improve the laws to allow law enforcement to do their jobs more effectively! He’ll work tirelessly to make sure that victims have more rights than the criminals. As an officer with Southern Security Life and with his experience in the family’s funeral home, Russ understands the needs of small businesses and the responsibilities that come with having to make a payroll. Russ will put his business experience to work for you the day that he’s sworn in as our next representative in fight to bring more and better jobs to our area.

Russ and Amy are guided by their beliefs taught in their church at South Louisville Baptist Church. These are the beliefs that shape their lives, and the same ones that will lead him to do the right thing for us as our leader for District 43. As a former chairman of Ducks Unlimited, Russ subscribes to the code of ethics from this organization to treat people and wildlife with respect. Credibility is another cornerstone of Ducks Unlimited that applies to Russ’s everyday life. Russ often quotes his dad who constantly told him that “you’re only as good as your word, and your word is how others will judge your honesty and integrity in making the right choices for yourself and those around you.” As your next member of the Mississippi House of Representatives for District 43, Russ Nowell will make the right decisions for each of us – every day. Issues That Affect Our Community

Economic Development

Working hard to bring more and better jobs to our district will not just be a campaign slogan, it will be my pledge to each of you! We have a strong work force, and we need a strong leader willing and ready to help industries and businesses see the potential here. With aggressive recruitment, we can increase the number of job opportunities available to everyone. Our district lies between the Canton Nissan plant and the Toyota plant in Tupelo, we can attract jobs that will work with those industries and more. Working together, we can and will bring these potential employers to our area and not allow politics to prevent them from locating here.

While pledging to put more dollars in your checkbook with an increased number of job opportunities, we absolutely need to get rid of the grocery tax! Tax breaks for working Mississippians, like you, is long overdue. This is not an issue that I will change positions on as election time moves closer. With one of the only grocery taxes in the country, Mississippi must make changes to prevent our citizens from making tough decisions in the check out line as to whether they have money for prescription drugs or putting food on the table.

Education

Fully funding education EVERY YEAR guarantees a better education for our children and shows potential businesses that Mississippi is serious about economic development. Education in Mississippi should not be for sale, it should be a priority every year not just during election years. Our children deserve every opportunity for success. This includes smaller class sizes and better pay for the job our teachers do. A good education is the cornerstone to a strong community. The dropout rate must be reduced. We must continue to work hard to discover the primary causes for these alarming numbers and work hard to create a solution not more bureaucracy that buries these “at risk” students. Our young adults should be fully prepared to enter the job market. As a parent and an employer, I promise to work harder and smarter to make sure every child has the best education available.

Law Enforcement

For the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect us, I will fully support law enforcement’s efforts to fight crime. We will work hard to protect our elderly and our children with legislation that ensures stronger penalties for those who abuse those who are less able to protect themselves. Internet predators, scam artists and other criminals should be severely and swiftly punished for their actions.

Veterans and Military

Families of our active military personnel should have our unwavering support. Joining forces with other members of the legislature, without regard to politics, we will make sure that these heroes get the attention so have earned when they wear that uniform. Our veterans are a valuable part to our community, and they too should be revered as the heroes they truly are. The sacrifices these families have and are making provide the very blanket of freedom that each one of us sleeps under at night.
